Montgomery Academy鈥檚 Kohn鈥檚 three-sport prowess
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (BVM) — Competitive juices flow strongly through the blood of Britton Kohn. He鈥檚 never had an offseason. All he does is grind, year round: football, baseball and basketball, not to mention school work. But that鈥檚 why he鈥檚 such a household name at Montgomery Academy.
His years of dedication to being the best at everything he does have made him a stud, whether that be on the gridiron, the hardwood or the diamond. Kohn, who will become a college football player upon graduation, has been an Eagles sports standout for years. So much so that he isn鈥檛 even sure that football, his college future, is his best sport.聽
鈥淚f I were to give you my honest opinion, I think baseball is my best sport but I think it’s kind of the sport that is hard to spend as much time on,鈥 Kohn said. 鈥淲hen you get to high school, football takes over the summers and there’s no offseason to play travel baseball because you have to go through summer workouts.鈥

Because of his ambitious spirit, Kohn was just fine with that sacrifice. He was willing to give up playing travel baseball in order to be the starting quarterback for Coach Robert Johnson at Montgomery Academy. And he could still play baseball for the school.
That addition by subtraction was the right call, as Kohn insists that throughout his entire sporting career, football has brought his best memories. Specifically, his senior year that just concluded with a loss in the state championship game.聽
鈥淭he whole season really is an awesome memory, getting to the playoffs, making a run,鈥 Kohn said. 鈥淚t was just the most fun I鈥檝e had playing a sport.鈥
He passed for 786 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for another 722 yards and eight touchdowns. A true dual-threat QB in the Wing-T offense, he now has college offers to choose from, with the list of schools being Olivet Nazarene, Cornell College, Huntington and Trine University.聽
But he isn鈥檛 even thinking about that at the moment as the three-sport star is leading the Eagles basketball team with 17 points and seven rebounds per game, respectively. When he鈥檚 done with that, he鈥檒l take to the rubber for the baseball team where last year he batted .352 with an 8-3 record as a pitcher, compiling 68 punchouts.聽
He鈥檚 been doing this for years, as an intense competitor and someone who wants to excel at everything he does. Kohn has approached it with the right mindset, making sure that no matter how hard he鈥檚 working at his athletics, that the academics always stay in tip-top shape.聽

鈥淚鈥檓 a very competitive guy. Not only in sports but when it comes to grades and stuff. I compete with myself trying to keep my grades up,鈥 Kohn said. 鈥淚 don’t want my grades to fall. Failing a class would be like losing a game to me. I want to excel in stuff other than sports, too, so that鈥檚 been my mindset for balancing it all.鈥
Kohn has been able to use this tenacious attitude towards the betterment of his teammates at Montgomery Academy. Going to a private school, the Eagles have many less kids to pick from when it comes to sports. Knowing this, Kohn has made himself thrive in a leadership position.
鈥淐oaches, my dad and even myself all challenge me to be the best leader possible. Even if you don’t have the most success you can be a good leader and set good examples for your teammates,鈥 Kohn said. 鈥淚 wanted to help lead my team, not just in stats or anything, but motivate others and help others.鈥
Kohn embodies the values of a star athlete through and through, which is what has led to his success and many of his teams鈥. Wherever his athletic career takes him, he鈥檒l be an important player and the epitome of selflessness.
