Trey Ragas declares for the NFL draft
LAFAYETTE, La. (BVM) 鈥� On April 29, college athletes around the country will be tuning into the NFL draft to see if their professional dreams will become a reality. One of those players that could see his dream come true is Louisiana Ragin鈥� Cajuns running back Trey Ragas.
鈥淚 will forever cherish the memories and relationships I have made with my teammates,鈥� Ragas said in a statement released on Twitter. 鈥淟eaving it all out on the field with them will be what I miss the most. And most importantly, I want to thank my family for always being there for me through it all.鈥� 聽 聽

The Archbishop Shaw High School graduate finished his Ragin鈥� Cajuns career with 131 rushing attempts, 758 yards, and 10 TDs. One of the best games he had came against Texas State when he rushed for 131 yards and three TDs.聽
As a redshirt freshman in 2017, Ragas saw action in 11 games, rushing for 813 yards and scoring nine touchdowns. Ragas鈥� best season came in 2018 when he rushed for 1,181 yards on 207 attempts. He averaged 5.7 yards a carry and scored 10 TDs. For his career, he has rushed 596 times, for 3,572 yards and 43 total TDs.聽
Selected to play in the, which was canceled due to COVID, Ragas could have returned to UL because the NCAA granted an extra year of eligibility to all players due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But he chose to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming an NFL player and thanked UL for giving him a chance.

Ragas also thanked the coaching staff, highlighting head coach Billy Napier, assistant coach Michael Desormeaux, and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke.

So far, Ragas is the first Ragin鈥� Cajun to declare for the NFL Draft. Whether or not he is the first or the last to be selected in the draft, Ragas aims to make an immediate impact for whichever team gives him an opportunity.
