Scott has been terrific in his junior season, racking up over 400 yards on the ground and eight touchdowns. Since arriving at the school, the dynamic running back has rushed for close to 2,400 yards and 28 touchdowns.聽
His Hoosiers coach admits he didn鈥檛 quite expect such an early breakout from the Syracuse native.
鈥淲hen Stevie first got here, I never would have thought he was going to do what he did, that early,鈥 Indiana head coach Tom Allen said in an interview with the . 鈥淚 knew he was going to be a good player, but that soon, no, I wouldn鈥檛 have predicted that.鈥
Scott gained momentum in recruiting thanks to his sophomore and junior campaigns at CBA. The high school running back rushed for over 2,500 yards and 42 touchdowns over those two seasons, while notching seven 100-yard games his junior season. Even with his breakout years on offense, many saw Scott as a fit on the other side of the ball.
鈥淚n high school, I had a good year my junior year and senior year on defense, so I had a few schools looking at me for linebacker,鈥 .
After originally committing to Rutgers early on, Scott changed his mind. After forming a relationship with fellow Syracuse native and Indiana associate head coach/running backs coach, Mike Hart, the CBA running back flipped his commitment to Indiana.
Hart once starred at the University of Michigan as a running back and currently holds the New York state聽 high school record for rushing. The connection between Scott and the former running back proved to be a major factor in the decision.
Now in his third year in the program, the junior running back has garnered national attention for his work in the Hoosiers鈥 hot start. Coming off his most recent performance against Maryland, Scott earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after rushing for 80 yards and three scores.
Sitting as the No. 12 ranked team in the country, Scott has powered the Hoosiers early on, already taking down a ranked Penn State team for only the second time in school history.聽
Indiana will look to lean on the star running back for the remainder of their season, as things won鈥檛 get any easier when they face-off against the No. 16 ranked Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday.聽
