LAKE CHARLES, La. 鈥 Following a shortened senior season at Barbe High School, 2019-2020 Gatorade Louisiana Player of the Year Brody Drost is ready to compete at the collegiate level for Louisiana State University.
鈥淏rody Drost is a dedicated and hard-working player,鈥 former Major League Baseball pitcher Ben Sheets said in a . Sheets is the owner of Sheets Baseball, the travel organization Drost played for. 鈥淪ince he was nine years old, I believed him to be the best player in the state and one of the best in the nation. 鈥淗e has proved me correct as he continues to progress. He is a player that does everything well on the field. He鈥檚 as close to a five-tool player as I鈥檝e seen at his age.鈥
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound outfielder and left-handed pitcher led the Buccaneers to a 7-2 record before last season ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Through those nine games, he batted .390, hit two home runs, drove in nine runs, and had an OPS of 1.169.
Although his successful prep career was cut short, Louisiana’s top prep prospect finished with some of the state鈥檚 top awards. With his high school career now over, Drost, the No. 100-ranked player in the country by will continue his baseball career at LSU. As one of the country’s top high school prospects, he could have gone anywhere to pursue a baseball career. He chose a program with a rich history of sending players to the big leagues.
鈥淲e believe Brody will have an immediate impact on our program because he has the opportunity to do so in the field and on the mound,鈥 LSU baseball head coach .聽 鈥淎s a position player he can play all three outfield positions and actually played some first base in high school at times. He has a beautiful left-handed swing and can hit for power. On the mound, he has a very fluid delivery and can get into the low 90s with his fastball.聽
鈥淏rody played at a very successful program in Louisiana at Barbe High School 鈥 a school from which we have had several outstanding players come to LSU. Brody is a winner and a blue-collar player.鈥
