Millard South star running back chooses to walk on at Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. (BVM) — Isaiah Harris was one of Nebraska’s top offensive playmakers at Millard South High School. He finished his career with 3,468 rushing yards and 52 touchdowns. As a senior, Harris led Class A in rushing through the regular season and finished the year with 1,859 yards and 27 touchdowns, averaging 11.3 yards per carry while helping the Patriots to a 10-2 record and a state semifinal appearance.聽

After his decorated high school career came to a close, Harris chose to walk on at Nebraska over scholarship offers from North Dakota and several Division II teams because playing in his home state is something he and many others take great honor in. Husker football is everything in Nebraska, so being able to play for the Big Red means a lot to Harris.聽

Harris tallied eight 100-yard rushing games to help the Patriots average better than 300 rushing yards per game as a senior. He finished the year with 2,181 all-purpose yards and was a first-team All-Nebraska and an All-Metro selection by the Omaha World-Herald. As a junior, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards as聽 Millard South went 9-2. His performance earned him second-team Super-State honors from the Lincoln Journal Star and honorable-mention all-state accolades from the World-Herald. Harris rushed for nearly 600 yards as a sophomore for a Millard South team that reached the Class A state semifinals.

Harris will redshirt as a Nebraska freshman this year and be eligible to be on the team for four more years. It was uncertain whether the Big Ten Conference and Nebraska were going to even play this season due to COVID-19, but they are back on schedule to return on Oct. 24.聽

Harris will wear No. 37 whenever he gets on the field for the Cornhuskers and his supporters in Millard will be ready to cheer him on as he plays for his dream school.聽
