Heart condition linked to COVID-19 will keep Georgia St. freshman QB off the field in 2020
ATLANTA (BVM) — The Georgia State University Panthers football team is slated to kick their season off on Sept. 12 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. An imposing challenge to begin the year, and they鈥檒l have to do it without freshman quarterback Mikele Colasurdo.
After contracting COVID-19, the 6-foot-1, 206-pound QB developed an unknown heart condition. This will keep him sidelined for the entirety of the 2020 college football season.
All four of GSU鈥檚 signal-callers are freshman, so Colasurdo was expected to be competing for the starting job. In 2021, he may still get that chance as he is hopeful he鈥檒l be able to return. But in the meantime, Colasurdo will not let his spirits down. He鈥檚 as ready as ever for the season to begin so that he can see his team in action.聽
鈥淚 am very thankful for everyone who has reached out and prayed for me,鈥 Colasurdo said in . 鈥…I can鈥檛 wait to watch my team compete this fall and I could not be more excited to return for the 2021 season!鈥
The former three-star recruit is a native of Inman, S.C., where he was a 3A state champion and Gatorade Player of the Year for Chapman High School and former head coach Mike Hodge. Colasurdo navigated the Panthers to a perfect 15-0 mark during his senior year. The dual-threat QB put together 36 passing touchdowns, 15 rushing touchdowns and over 3,000 yards through the air.
