Fairport鈥檚 Jaelin Moss is ready to set his own legacy at Syracuse
FAIRPORT, N.Y. (BVM) — Fairport High School鈥檚 defensive tackle Jaelin Moss sticks out on a football field. His size, however, isn’t usually the first thing that people bring up with the 6-foot-5 senior.
Back in April, Moss committed to Syracuse University after receiving interest from other Division I programs. Moss had received scholarship offers from Stony Brook University and Sacred Heart University before accepting the offer from Syracuse. He wrote in a Twitter post about his decision.
鈥淭he college recruiting process has been an amazing experience,鈥 Moss said. 鈥淚 want to thank god and the coaches who believed in me enough to recruit me and offer me scholarships. I also want to thank my family, friends, teachers, and coaches for pushing me and supporting me through this entire process! Without further ado I would like to announce that I will be continuing my academic and football career at Syracuse University!鈥

For Moss, the commitment to Syracuse was the perfect fit. Not only is the university an hour away from his home, but his family ties to the program run deep. His cousins, Chandler and Arthur Jones, dominated at the Carrier Dome on Saturdays before heading to the NFL.
The three Jones brothers are well known for their athletic careers. Chandler, who attended Syracuse from 2008-11, has become one of the NFL鈥檚 elite pass rushers over his eight-year career and is a two-time All-Pro and Super Bowl XLIX champion. Arthur, who played at Syracuse from 2006-09, spent seven years in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Ravens in 2012. Jon, has become one of the best all-time UFC fighters in the octagon and currently holds the record for most title defenses in the Light Heavyweight division.
Moss seems to be next in line to carry on his family’s athletic legacy after a stellar junior season. The Fairport defensive tackle was a second-team All-Greater Rochester selection and will look to lead the Red Raiders鈥 defense in his senior season.聽
Moss鈥 growth spurt as an underclassmen has helped him on the field. Coming into Fairport at 6 feet, 200 pounds, the senior defensive tackle is now listed at 6-foot-5, 260 pounds after his junior season.
With the commitment from Moss, the Fairport senior was the first player from New York to join the Orange鈥檚 2021 recruiting class. He will join Aquinas Institute tight end, Steven Mahar Jr., as the second straight Rochester commit for the school.
