Bixby鈥檚 Presley is staying put to dominate in his home state at OSU
BIXBY, Okla. (BVM) 鈥 Competing on the football field can be quite intimidating for most teams. Not for the Bixby Spartans. With their high-powered offense and ability to overcome obstacles, the Bixby football program has established itself as a perennial powerhouse in the state of Oklahoma. Getting main contributions from Gatorade State Player of the Year Brennan Presley, the 2019 Spartans captured their fifth state title in six seasons.
As the No. 1 team in Class 6A-II, Bixby takes pride in the fact that the Spartans have achieved a high level of success.
鈥淕etting over the hump was a huge step for this team,鈥 head football coach Loren Montgomery said. 鈥淔ootball has always been a big part of Bixby; it鈥檚 great to see this team at the next level.鈥
As the team continued to mount win after win, the coaches were looking for players to step up to become leaders. Enter Presley.
鈥淲inning at Bixby is the standard now,鈥 Presley said. 鈥淎s a team, we work hard and we prove to others and ourselves that we deserve to be there at the end competing for championships.鈥
At 5-foot-9, 168-pounds, Presley brought an explosive element to both sides of the ball. He played defensive back and wide receiver while at Bixby. During his senior season, Presley had receiving numbers of 98 catches for 1,517 yards and 24 touchdowns over 13 games.
鈥淔ootball means a lot to me,鈥 Presley said. 鈥淕od gave me a gift and it would be a shame to waste the gift he gave me.鈥
Making splashes on the offensive side of the ball, Presley also made game-changing plays on the defensive side of the ball as well, leading the team with seven interceptions. Two of those interceptions went for touchdowns.
鈥淗e is so electric; when he wants to make a play he can,鈥 Montgomery said. 鈥淗e鈥檚 a pure athlete and he just goes out there and makes plays for the team. We always try to find a way to run the ball. Our play calling is 50/50, but we do like to get the ball in our playmakers鈥 hands.鈥
With his ability to make plays on the field, Presley has also been able to prove to coaches he can handle his responsibilities off the field by maintaining a 3.13 GPA.
鈥淔ootball means a lot and to get a full scholarship makes it easier on my family,鈥 Presley said. 鈥淚鈥檓 not quite sure what I want to major in yet, but I鈥檓 looking at business or engineering.鈥
Football has the ability to teach lessons, whether in practice, team meetings or games, and Montgomery believes Presley can still learn a lot.
鈥淔ootball is the greatest classroom out there,鈥 Montgomery said.
Presley is an underrated talent that the state of Oklahoma has produced and he takes great honor in what he does. Oklahoma State University has always been viewed as the little brother of Oklahoma University. As a three-star athlete, Presley will bring the grittiness and hard work to change that narrative as he becomes a member of the OSU Cowboys this fall.
鈥淚 look forward to helping OSU capture a Big 12 Conference title,鈥 Presley said. 鈥淚鈥檓 looking forward to learning so much from coach Gundy and if my number gets called I鈥檒l be ready.”
